The latest offering from Land Rover is the Defender and the company claims that this car will be safer and better than all the previous models. Apart from this, there will also be a plug-in hybrid heart. The booking for the same will begin on Tuesday.
This new model is the perfect combination of the audacity of a 2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine along with the refinement of a 105 kW electric motor. These combine perfectly to generate a power output of around 400 bhp. And then, there is also a 640 Nm of combined torque on offer that propels the SUV to zip past the 100 kmph mark in just 5.6 seconds. The top speed of the car stands at 209 kmph.
There is a 19.2 kWh battery which is present at the core of the Defender and it can be charged at home or from any office space putting into use a 15A socket or a 7.4 kW AC wall box charger which will come complimentary with the vehicle.
Land Rover has hinged its bets on the PHEV version as they expect this to offer a cleaner, more refined driving experience. "We are extremely proud to introduce our first Plug-In Hybrid, the New Defender P400e in India, a vehicle that perfectly balances performance with efficiency, while retaining Land Rover’s legendary off-road capability," said Rohit Suri, President and MD at Jaguar Land Rover India.
"This also reaffirms our commitment to introduction of electrified vehicles across the Jaguar Land Rover portfolio, after we had opened bookings for Jaguar I-PACE in November 2020,” he went on to add.
This new car will hit the Indian markets in four variants – they include the SE, HSE, X-Dynamic HSE and X on the Defender 110. The starting price of the same is ₹75.59 lakh (ex-showroom)
As per the company, deliveries might start from Q1 of financial year 2021-22.
